CFP: Critical Mass, Fall 2020

EXTENDED DEADLINE: Critical Mass Newsletter is working on a Special Issue to be released later this fall. This issue will focus on scholars and activists of color in the area of collective action and social movements, and will include both essays and bios.

Essays (approx. 750 words) can be on a range of topics, including but not limited to race, labor, repression, and immigration.

Bios (approx. 750 words) can describe either activism or scholarship and can be about non-CBSM members. They can also be written about yourself! Please also send along announcements of recent publications, calls for papers, upcoming conferences, and funding opportunities pertinent to movements scholars of color. All submissions should be sent to cbsmnews@gmail.com by November 6th, 2020, with a clear subject line.

Critical Mass, the CBSM section newsletter, invites submissions for our Fall 2020 issue that will focus on activism in 2020. In particular, we welcome short pieces related to Black Lives Matter protests, labor strikes during the Covid-19 pandemic, and violent suppression of protest. Please keep these pieces under 750 words. Also, we would love to hear about recent publications of articles and books, calls for papers, upcoming conferences, funding opportunities, and other news pertinent to CBSM members. Note that the fall issue will also include the briefs that each award committee prepared for the 2020 section award winners.

Additionally, we are working on a Special Issue of Critical Mass, to be released later this fall. This issue will focus on the work of scholars of color in the area of collective action and social movements, and will include essays and bios. We invite essays (approx. 750 words) from scholars of color on a range of topics, including but not limited to race, labor, repression, and immigration. In this issue, we are also looking to include short bios of scholars and activists of color. Bios can describe both activism and scholarship and can be about non-CBSM members. These should be kept under 750 words and emailed to cbsmnews@gmail.com with the Subject Line “Scholar-Activist Profile”.

As is customary, this special issue will also include announcements, including recent publications of articles and books, calls for papers, upcoming conferences, funding opportunities, and other news pertinent to CBSM members. However, these announcements will focus exclusively on work by or pertinent to scholars of color.
